Strategically located on the road between Skye and Kyle and at the entrance to the Plock of Kyle – The Toll Office
The old Skye Bridge ticket office, called the Toll Office, was built on an area of the Plock which was compulsorily purchased by the Scottish Government to build the road and bridge to Skye. The building has been closed since the toll fees on the Skye Bridge were abolished in 2004.
Our Trust took over the ownership of the building from Transport Scotland in February 2019 and subsequently moved its office there in August 2019. The transfer of ownership was supported by Scottish Land Fund.
In March 2020, we have secured funding to make the building disabled friendly, create a more suitable activity space and set up a community shed there. These capital works have been postponed due to Covid but we hope to undertake it later in the year.
Time frame: 2011 – ongoing
Funding: Stage 1 – £24,990 and Stage 2 – £67,240 and capital alterations £51,833
Funders: Scottish Land Fund, National Lottery Heritage Fund, National Lottery Community Fund, Kyle & Lochalsh Community Trust and Baillie Gifford
