Strategically located on the road between Skye and Kyle and at the entrance to the Plock of Kyle – The Toll Office

Toll Office

The old Skye Bridge ticket office, called the Toll Office, was built on an area of the Plock which was compulsorily purchased by the Scottish Government to build the road and bridge to Skye. The building has been closed since the toll fees on the Skye Bridge were abolished in 2004.

Our Trust wishes to purchase the Toll Office from Transport Scotland and utilize it in the development of the Plock of Kyle. The discussions with Transport Scotland about taking either a lease or ownership of this building span back to 2011. In 2017, Transport Scotland finally agreed to sell the building and associated car park to the previous owners of the land, Hamilton Park Trustees. However, as the Plock is already being transferred to our Trust, Transport Scotland and Hamilton Park Trustees are content with the building being passed to Kyle & Lochalsh Community Trust.

After successful stage 1 and stage 2 awards from Scottish Land Fund in 2018, the Trust developed a Masterplan and a Business Plan for the Toll Office and the Plock and is now progressing to take forward transfers of these two assets.

Time frame: 2011 – ongoing

Funding: Stage 1  – £24,990 and Stage 2 – £67,240

Funders: Scottish Land Fund
